Look up in the sky it’s a bird! It’s a plane! No…it’s Yes Man or Yes Woman. You might recognize this lifesaving hero. You often see him or her looking back at you in the mirror every morning while brushing your teeth.
If there’s one thing you can count on from your friends at GenYus, it’s that, we’ll always give it to you straight up – no chaser. Here’s the deal…the YES man or woman really is a hero to a lot of people. They’re the most responsible and understanding person known by those in their personal, work, and family circles. This is why they’re repeatedly asked to save the day. These super heroes do it all: volunteer, drive Ms. Daisy to bingo, lend folks money that they don’t have, plan parties, deliver bad news, go to work early, stay late, herd cats, and clean up messes that they didn’t create. They do it all with a smile on their face, a pep in their step, and ask for nothing in return.
The Kryptonite
Here’s the key to getting people to start valuing and respecting your time and/or finally paying you what you’re worth. This one word will destroy the Kryptonite, that radioactive element that is the weakness for all Yes Men and Woman.
That’s right; say it with us, “…No.” One more time… all together with feeling “No!”
Didn’t that feel good?
When you say NO…some may be shocked by your newfound voice. They have grown accustomed to you saying yes regardless of the circumstance. You’re probably going to make some people angry. Let’s call a spade a spade, if you say NO and harsh repercussions follow NEWSFLASH Clark Kent, its time to eradicate that toxic one-sided relationship.
If you’re not used to saying NO, it might make you uncomfortable, especially since you might feel like you have to explain yourself. Hear us out. Saying NO allows you to focus on those things that truly align with who you are and what you’re trying to accomplish. By standing up for yourself and saying NO, you’re commanding respect for your time and energy. You are also sending a very powerful and positive message to others that you value yourself. If you don’t respect your time and value your knowledge, skills, and gifts, how can you expect others to do the same? Stop discounting your most precious commodity and increase your net worth.
How to Break Free
You’re here for the simple fact that you’ve either unleashed or are ready to unleash your inner genius. Something deep inside you is dying to break free so that you can disturb the universe. Leaving your legacy will take focus, direction, and heart. To do this you need to just say NO to those things that take you off the path towards living your extraordinary life.
The test is simple. Before ripping open your shirt to reveal that “YES” on your chest, ask yourself this question, “By doing or participating in (insert action here) am I getting closer to living my extraordinary life?”
If the answer is yes, rip open your shirt revealing that “YES” on your chest and go fight crime. If the answer is No: take a deep breath, look the person in the eye, and with a heart full of love and deep empathy just say, “No.”
